Strategic Orientation Council
A Strategic Orientation Council, under the presidency of Jean-Paul Cluzel, was appointed in April 2011. This new body will be consulted mainly for guidance on cultural and scientific policy, and its activities in the propagation of culture and developments in digital technologies.
It is made up of fifteen personalities selected for their knowledge in scientific and cultural areas for a period of three years renewable. Two are cultural heritage officers and four are either of foreign nationality or have worked for significant periods abroad.
Five are appointed by the Minister of Culture and ten by the President of the Grand Palais.

- Mr. Bernard Blistène, Director of the Department of Cultural Development at the Georges Pompidou National Centre of Art and Culture,
- Mr. Thomas Campbell, CEO, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York,
- Mr. Hugues Gall, Director of the Claude Monet Foundation at Giverny, Member of the Institut,
- Mrs Claudie Haigneré, President of the Etablissement public du palais de la Découverte and the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie (Universcience),
- Mr. Franck Riester, MP and Mayor of Coulommiers.

- Mr. Patrick Bloche, MP and Mayor of the 11th arrondissement of Paris (PS)
- Mr. Neil Mc Gregor, Director of the British Museum in London
- Mrs Maria-Vittoria Marini Clarelli, Superintendent, National Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery, Rome
- Mr. Olivier Meslay, Head of the Department of European and American Art at the Dallas Museum of Art
- Mrs Sylvie Ramond, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Lyon
- Mr. Didier Fusillier, Director of the Maison de la culture, Créteil, artistic director of Lille 3000
- Mr. Lucien Jibert, former member of the Board of Directors, EPGPCE, specialist in fair and show organization
- David Kessler, member of the Council of State, CEO of the Inrockuptibles (société des Editions indépendantes)
- Mr. Alex Beard, Deputy Director, Tate Gallery, London
- Mr. Roch-Olivier Maistre, Senior lawyer at the Court of Auditors, President of the Board of Directors of the Cité de la musique, Mediator of the cinema
