The Clock Balcony

Located over the peristyle at the entrance to the Nave, the clock balcony owes its name to the world time clock that used to keep time as events unfolded around it in the Grand Palais.

One of the finest views of the Nave

With an area of 350 m2, the Clock Balcony offers a panoramic view of the whole Nave.
Out of bounds today for safety reasons, the area is due to be restored soon and will again be open to the public.

The Clock Balcony offers tremendous potential for the organisation of special events: receptions, exhibitions, recordings for television and radio broadcasts, etc. A special access from the Fine Arts Staircase will make it possible to use it as a private area.

The world time clock

The clock was designed by Armand-François Collin who had notably devised the chimes for the church of Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois and was awarded the Légion d'honneur at the 1878 Universal Exhibition. It was then that he designed the famous world time clock for the Palais de l'industrie. When the latter was demolished the clock was moved to the Nave of the Grand Palais where it kept time till 2001.
