The Paddock

A testimony to the history of the Grand Palais, this area owes its name to the horse shows that were held in the Nave from 1901 to 1957. It offers a sumptuous setting for evening receptions, dinners, and congresses …

In the heart of the Nave

The Paddock directly faces the main entrance to the Grand Palais. With the Great Staircase, a masterpiece of Art nouveau, it is an instant eye-catcher.

Designed by architects Albert Louvet and Henri Deglane, the impressive double-run Great Staircase has small arcades supported by green porphyry columns, themselves resting on plinths made of granite quarried in the Vosges mountains. Constructed in naked steel, it has two perrons in marquetry with the initials RF (République Française) in bronze on either side of the balustrades.
