November 5 2009 was a première for two reasons. Firstly, the review L'Architecture d'aujourd'hui chose the Grand Palais to celebrate its launch. The magazine, a reference in the world of architecture, founded in 1930 by André Bloc, has been revived, after a long absence, by the efforts of architect Jean Nouvel, entrepreneur Alexandre Allard, and journalist Cyrille Poy.
Secondly, the venue chosen for the cocktail party, organised in honour of the celebrated periodical, was the Galerie courbe, the curved gallery in the Grand Palais. A well-kept secret, the venue, which is still undergoing refurbishment, was opened with stringent safety measures, and specially laid out and decorated for the one-off event. Guests included the French Minister of Culture and Communication, Frédéric Mitterrand and personalities like painter Pierre Soulages, designer Philippe Starck, and former Minister of Culture Donnedieu de Vabres…
At the end of the evening, the Galerie courbe closed its doors again to enable work to continue, in preparation for future public or private events.
