43,000 sq. ft. unused

The balconies that run right round the Nave and add up to a total area of around 32,300 m² (even 43,000 sq. ft. if the Clock Balcony and areas accessed via the Great Staircase are included) are currently unused. Once used for exhibitions, the balconies are now out of bounds for safety reasons.

New exhibition and tour areas

The pinewood parquet flooring, decorative ceilings and balustrades are in need of restoration. This is vital for the future of the Grand Palais insofar as this rehabilitation would substantially modify the way that the Nave could be used in event and tour organisation.

The balconies provide superb potential floor space for the organisation of exciting exhibitions and events: recording of radio and television broadcasts, receptions, temporary catering areas, etc. Original scenography in such a magnificent setting cannot fail to enthral.

The restoration of the balconies will also offer the public permanent circuits for touring the Nave, this type of circular tour being currently unfeasible: the ability to walk all the way round the Nave should become an imperative for visitors to the Grand Palais.
