The VIP Lounge

The VIP Lounge

Located at the heart of the Grand Palais, this little-known area nonetheless has an area of 12,800 sq. ft., capped by a glass roof at a height of 26 feet. Since 1900 it has been the setting for a host of events and was accessible from the Nave via the Great Staircase. Since the Palais de la Découverte took up its permanent home in the Palais d’Antin in 1940, this passage has been bricked up, cutting off the original east-west axis.

The VIP Lounge is due to be restored and its original access reopened. It will once again be a central area in the Grand Palais, recreating the building’s original continuity.

The VIP Lounge is transformed into a gymnasium for wounded soliders during World War I.
