Air show

1909-1951: Air show

In 1909, Louis Blériot in his Blériot XI monoplane was the first to successfully fly across the English Channel.

In the same year, the aircraft starred in the Nave of the Grand Palais at the inauguration of the first air show, the Exposition internationale de locomotion aérienne. The presence of so many hot-air balloons, aeroplanes, and airships in the Nave drew comparisons with a birdcage. Later renamed the Salon de l’aviation, the show grew each year in popularity.
