Houseware show

1926-1960: Houseware show

Vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, fridges, and electric irons: domestic appliances revolutionised daily life and it was in the Nave of the Grand Palais that the public first discovered them.

The first Houseware Show was held in 1926. It was an instant success. In 1955, attendance records were smashed when the exhibition clocked up one million four hundred thousand visitors.
