The French book fair
In 1981, the first Salon du livre was held at the Grand Palais. Since then this has been an unmissable event for professionals and book lovers alike. It returned regularly till the Nave closed for repairs in 1993.

The now-famous Salon du livre book fair was first held in the spring of 1981. This was where professionals from the world of publishing came to meet readers at book signings, round tables, and other activities all of which contributed to making these fairs a festive, cultural occasion. Since 1989 it has been traditional for a foreign country to be invited as guest of honour.

For over ten years, the Salon du livre at the Grand Palais was increasingly successful. From 117,000 visitors in 1981, attendance exceeded 150,000 in the 1990s.
