While the Grand Palais is certainly a wonderful historical monument, like a house plant it also needs high maintenance. Over time it was divided into several independent establishments which set up very different internal organizational structures and museum systems. We decided to start from scratch and plan a major restoration and refurbishment project for the building. Our objective was to rediscover the overall coherence of the Grand Palais once more and to respond to the accommodation needs of both our visitors and works of art. All worthy intentions!
Our top priority is above all the conservation of the building and accommodating the public in properly safe conditions. In a monument built over a century ago, there is much to be done.
Once this is in place, we will undertake work to allow us to restore a unique building to its original configuration, with transverse ribs, remarkable transparencies, and voluminous space, providing copious natural lighting.
