Béjart at the Grand Palais

May/June 1989. The Commemoration of the French Revolution.
At the Grand Palais, in the first part of a show choreographed by Maurice Béjart, Jorge Donn dances to Ravel's Boléro under the glass roof of the Grand Palais.
"The show starts in full daylight. However as Ravel's insistent theme builds towards its crescendo, the light dims to a pale blue that gradually darkens. As the last bar falls dramatically on the dancers, the glass roof has disappeared, swallowed up inexorably by the night.
The magic of music, dance and light. Geniuses working together to produce unique moments. Under the cupola of the Grand Palais, one of Béjart's most celebrated ballets, and Ravel's most famous piece, performed for perhaps the last time by Béjart's legendary dancer, attained cosmic dimensions."
