Qu'est-ce qu'un wax?
Une WAX (wax signifiant cire en anglais) est un tissage de coton industriel, surtout produit en Angleterre et en Hollande. On l'appelle aussi le "tissu africain" tant ce textile est populaire en Afrique subsaharienne où il est surtout porté en pagne. Le wax mélange des techniques d'impression et de réserve à la cire, inspirées des batiks javanais.
Seydou Keïta utilisait souvent ce type de tissu pour orner l'arrière plan de ses photograhies et créer des effets surprenants comme sur l'image présentée ci-dessous.
