On February 5, the Nave hosted a sale organised by Bonhams, the celebrated auctioneers, as part of the "110 years of motor shows in the Grand Palais” exhibition, an opportunity to cast a nostalgic eye back over no fewer than 48 motor shows held in the Nave between 1901 and 1961.
From February 4 - 6, 8,620 visitors were able to admire and ─ for the luckiest ─ acquire unique items worthy of a museum collection. The 90 automobiles on sale included family favourites that have attained cult status, sports cars that burned up the track at top race events, and supercars that once belonged to celebrities, including John Lennon’s famous Ferrari and Belgian King Baudoin’s Aston Martin. 27 motor cycles and 200 lots of automobilia (pre-1970 automobile-related memorabilia) also went under the hammer.
The sale drew top-dollar prices, with 73% of lots raising a total of over 10 million euros. The bidding was topped by a 1933 Bugatti that fetched 943,000 euros!
