For the first time, the Grand Palais was lit up in pink, symbol of the campaign against breast cancer. An event on the grand scale that is part of the tradition of impressive illuminations organised for the last 19 years by Estée Lauder Companies throughout the world. Every year, more than 200 national architectural or natural sites are lit up in pink in October. These have included the Sydney Opera House, the Niagara Falls, the Water Cube in China, and the Rockefeller Center and JF Kennedy Airport in New York.
Over 300 people linked up to form a pink ribbon in the Nave, while Pink Ribbon Awards dedicated to breast cancer research were handed over in the presence of the CEO of Estée Lauder and association’s ambassadors for 2011 (Audrey Pulvar, Cécilia Hornus, Faustine Bollaert, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Marie-Amélie Seigner).
