The inauguration of the exhibition in the Grand Palais on June 11 was attended by the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart François Fillon. The entrance to the Nave was spectacularly reworked in a scenography evoking Russian folk symbols: giant matryoshka dolls up to 40 feet tall, and firebirds.
Innovation and economic cooperation between the two countries were at the heart of the Exhibition, echoing the Grand Palais' secular tradition of showcasing scientific challenge and technological prowess.
Visitors were also invited to discover the tourist appeal of Russian regions such as Ivanovo, Omsk, and Kalouga, while audiences of all ages were enjoyed a rich and enthralling events programme, with photographic exhibitions, circus and ballet on ice – including the celebrated Nutcracker. Five days in which to discover the true face of Russia today.
