During the 17th century, Naples established itself as one of the most important artistic centres in Europe. The exhibition Naples for Passion. Masterpieces from the De Vito Collection offers a journey to the heart of the Parthenopean city, through the collection of works assembled by the engineer and collector of that period, Giuseppe De Vito (1924-2015).
On this occasion, a large part of the paintings from this exceptional collection, housed in the historic villa of Olmo near Florence, is presented for the first time in France.
The exhibition highlights in turn the various influences, inflections and artistic innovations of the Seicento in Naples, the genres dear to Neapolitan painters such as battle and still life, and some of the most influential artistic figures of their time.
The exhibition will be held successively at the Magnin Museum in Dijon and the Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence (from July 15 to October 29 2023), both of which house Neapolitan collections that have been little studied until now, naturally echoing, in the form of a counterpoint, that of the Fondazione De Vito.
Exhibition organised by the Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais, the Musée Magnin and the Musée Granet, with the collaboration of the Fondazione De Vito.
