A monumental textile work

The curtain of le19M Maisons d'art

Didier Plowy, GrandPalaisRmn 2025

At the Grand Palais, a monumental textile curtain celebrates the wealth of craftsmanship excellence, while sublimating the majesty of the glass roof. The fruit of an exceptional collaboration with le19M, CHANEL's Métiers d'art venue, this unprecedented ornamental creation can be seen all year round from the Place centrale.

A textile tribute to the architecture of the Grand Palais

Laboratory for excellence in fashion and decoration, le19M has brought together the expertise of all its resident Maisons d'art, under the artistic coordination of Studio MTX, a design studio and production workshop specializing in architectural embroidery.

The result is a 15-meter-high by 8-meter-wide creation composed of nine mobile panels suspended from the building's joists. Conceived as a partition between the Nave of the Grand Palais and its central space, this contemporary work stands out as a functional and poetic element, in direct dialogue with the architecture and history of the monument.

The work is monumental and fits into a space that is itself out of scale, almost immeasurable. It is a place where one spends one's time looking up at the glass and steel dome.

A curtain like a rain of light

The motif, made up of vertical rectangles, evokes a suspended rain, a delicate ballet of light drops. It naturally invites you to look up at the iconic Grand Palais glass roof. The chromatic palette is directly inspired by the architecture: the reseda green, signature of the metal structure, blends subtly into shades of white and deep blue, like a horizon in motion.
