Vibrant flowers and saturated colors, plays of light, and immersive sensory installations: from December 16, 2026, to March 21, 2027, Mika Ninagawa takes over the Grand Palais with her collective EiM to present an exhibition designed to be walked through and experienced, much like a meditation. Tickets are now on sale!
A leading multidisciplinary artist on the contemporary Japanese scene, Mika Ninagawa is renowned for her photography and also creates films, videos, and installations. Having won Japan’s most prestigious photography awards early in her career, she has exhibited her work at major international institutions, from Taipei to Beijing to Venice. In France, her work was notably featured in Florae in 2021, at the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles in 2024, and at Rouen Cathedral in 2026.
Flowers, butterflies, fish, and fragments of cities populate her vibrantly colored images. Behind this striking beauty lie more intimate themes: memory, absence, fragility, and the beauty of the ephemeral. The exhibition Alive with Shadows ("Living with our Shadows") evokes the shadows that inhabit us and shape, just as much as light does, the way we exist in the world.
For this carte blanche at the Grand Palais, Mika Ninagawa unfolds her universe on an exceptional scale. With the EiM collective (Eternity in a Moment), which she co-founded in 2022, she creates lush, almost surreal environments that blend photography, video, light, music, and installation art.
A visual, poetic, and sensory experience to discover at the Grand Palais from December 16, 2026, to March 21, 2027. Book your tickets now!
I approach photography in a rather impulsive way - it’s very directly linked to my feelings, and words don’t really come into play at first. Installations, on the other hand, lead us to find our own words, to convey them, and to create collectively - this opens up a different realm and gives me a pleasure distinct from that of photography.
