From March 18 to June 21, 2026, the Grand Palais welcomes for the first time in France a major retrospective of Nan Goldin, a key figure in contemporary photography. Intimate, political and deeply emotional, her work explores over forty years of lives, friendships and struggles.
The work of Nan Goldin (b. 1953), rooted in autobiography, has redefined contemporary photography and the visual diary genre. Her slideshows, recognized as cult works, explore intimacy, identities, the chosen family, LGBTQIA+ communities, the night, addictions, violence and resilience. In the 2010s, her activism against the opioid crisis and related patronage marks a major turning point in her political engagement.
The exhibitionThis Will Not End Well offers a journey through the artist's iconic works and unfolds in pavilions designed by architect Hala Wardé. The tour extends to the Chapelle Saint-Louis-de-la-Salpêtrière with the installation Sisters, Saints, Sibyls presented in its original space. Each installation combines image, sound and narrative, transforming photography into a total experience.
Extracted from an international tour, this retrospective presented in Stockholm, Amsterdam, Berlin and Milan has been enriched for Paris and offers you a unique immersive experience, both moving and sensitive.
