Christophe Colomb a découvert l'Amérique, et pas que !

Le 5 décembre 1492 le célèbre navigateur débarque sur l'actuelle île d'Haïti qu'il baptiste Hispaniola. A l'époque, les indigènes l'appellaient Ayiti, Quisqueya ou Bohio.

Christophe Colomb y passe même Noël, et les Espagols commencent à y exploiter de l'or. Estimée à environ 100 000 personnes, la population indigène est alors réduite en esclavage. Mais touchée par les maladies "importées" par les européens, les mauvais traitements, la population amérindienne disparaît en quelques décennies.
