L’auteur britannique Horace Walpole (1717-1797) inventa au XIXe siècle la formulation de "jardiniste", contractant les mots « jardinier » et « artiste ». Ce terme qualifie très bien l’ensemble de l’exposition du Grand Palais comme une véritable « promenade jardiniste ».
