In the heart of the Grand Palais’s Nef, a monumental presence blurs the boundaries between matter and sensation through July 26. Lights, sounds, scents, videos, and moving installations... the artist invites you to experience a different way of perceiving the world, inspired by the mysteries of quantum physics. Discover Nous, frissons d’étoiles by Laure Prouvost.
What would reality look like if we could experience it on a quantum scale? This is the question at the heart of Nous, frissons d’étoiles, the installation conceived by Laure Prouvost and on view through July 26 in the Nef of the Grand Palais.
Without attempting to explain quantum physics through complex concepts, Laure Prouvost offers a sensitive and poetic approach. The exhibition invites everyone to observe, listen, feel, and let themselves be surprised by phenomena that defy our usual certainties.
Laure Prouvost, Nous frissons d'étoiles, 2026
The result of two years of research conducted by the artist in collaboration with philosopher Tobias Rees and scientist Hartmut Neven, this project draws inspiration from recent discoveries in quantum physics and quantum computing, one of the most significant advances of our time.
Bathed in natural light from the skylight, at the heart of the nave, the installation interacts with the architecture of the space and unfolds into a vast landscape of shapes, sounds, and movements. A monumental sculpture with six limbs titled The Beginning appears to float in space. Both powerful and delicate, it comes to life to the rhythm of light and sound.
At its center, a video installation projected above your heads invites you to shift your perspective. The images blend studio footage, visual experiments, and data from a quantum computer to compose a sensory narrative that bridges the infinitely small and the immensity of the universe.
Discovery involves sight as much as it does hearing or smell. Around the installation, several elements extend the experience: shapes reminiscent of meteorites rise and fall from the glass roof in a mechanical choreography. Some take the form of helmets through which you can hear their sound and perceive their metallic and mineral scent. Further on, suspended materials swirl at the mercy of unpredictable air currents, while strange metallic silhouettes equipped with light projectors punctuate the space with dazzling flashes. Each element draws you a little further into an expansive world that blends the living and the non-living, the natural and technology.
We Felt A Star Dying, aims to spark a collective paradigm shift: to move beyond our Newtonian ways of perceiving the world and embrace a quantum reality, with its microscopic free spirit and entanglement.
Throughout the summer, join us for Dimanches Frissons d’étoiles, a series of four unmissable events blending poetry, science, and reflection. Here are the details for the first few events.
Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. - A sound performance by KUKII
Admission with an exhibition ticket, available online or at the on-site box office
The first highlight of this program features singer, composer, and performer KUKII, who created the soundtrack for the film We Felt A Star Dying, as she takes over the Nef at the Grand Palais for a unique collective experience. Through voice, vibrations, and listening, the artist presents a performance inspired by the world of Laure Prouvost and the mantra "WE ARE WE". Blending music, collective ritual, and sensory experience, this event offers a new way to connect with the exhibition and extend its emotional impact.
Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. – An Introduction to Quantum Physics by Christophe Galfard
An event open to everyone, no reservation required
Does the quantum world intrigue you but seem difficult to grasp? Christophe Galfard, a Ph.D. in theoretical physics and science writer, will provide you with the keys to understanding its main principles in a simple and accessible way.
