Synchronicité, Maud Le Pladec

Created on July 26, 2024 for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games under the artistic direction of Thomas Jolly, the explosive choreographic fresco comes back to life in the Nave, carried by the power of 50 dancers including performers from CCN - Ballet de Lorraine. An opportunity to relive an exceptional moment.

Set to Michael Gordon's electrifying music, which revisits Beethoven in a whirlwind of energy, a dozen dancers from CCN - Ballet de Lorraine seize on classical codes to better transcend them. Between rigor and abandonment, precision and explosion, the piece traces a path towards liberated virtuosity, a collective body carried to extremes.

TURNING BURNING, Jan Martens

In his first work for a Ballet, Jan Martens gives free rein to his passion for the motif of repetition and minimalism on the scale of a large ensemble, all the while linking this work exhilaratingly to the emblematic figures of the post-modern and minimalist movements that are Lucinda Childs and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

Veins of Water, Maud Le Pladec

For this French premiere, Maud Le Pladec imagines a trio for three women: three aquatic figures halfway between mermaids, waves and lost souls, inspired by the mysterious music of Nico Muhly. Water becomes a metaphor for the inner struggle of the human being, where beauty and monstrosity intertwine, while Jeanne Friot's costumes and Éric Soyer's lighting prolong this tension between fluidity and density, grace and strangeness.

About Maud Le Pladec and CCN - Ballet de Lorraine

Maud Le Pladec

Choreographer and director of CCN - Ballet de Lorraine since January 2025, Maud Le Pladec first trained at the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier before collaborating as a performer with figures such as Mathilde Monnier, Boris Charmatz and Loïc Touzé. Winner of the Prix de la Révélation Chorégraphique in 2010 for Professor, she went on to develop a body of work marked by dialogue between dance, contemporary music and female voices, notably with Democracy, Hunted or Silent Legacy (Festival d'Avignon, 2022).

Director of the Centre chorégraphique national d'Orléans from 2017 to 2024, she has also collaborated with major institutions such as the Opéra national de Paris, Montpellier Danse, Sadler's Wells and the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Ceremonies, for which she was Dance Director.

Maud Le Pladec is an officier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a chevalier in the Ordre National du Mérite. In 2024, she received the SACD Special Prize for her contribution to the ceremonies of the Paris Olympic Games.

CCN - Ballet de Lorraine

Founded in 1968 in Amiens as Ballet-Théâtre Contemporain, Ballet de Lorraine embodies the evolution of contemporary dance in France. After a spell in Angers (1972-1978), the company moved to Nancy in 1978. It became the Centre chorégraphique national (CCN) in 1999, and has since established itself as a center for choreographic creation and innovation. The company stands out for the excellence of its dancers, capable of interpreting an eclectic repertoire ranging from works by Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown and William Forsythe to contemporary creations by Maud Le Pladec, Adam Linder and Marco da Silva Ferreira. The CCN - Ballet de Lorraine continues to shine on the national and international scenes, affirming its commitment to diversity and innovation in the art of choreography. Appointed Director of CCN - Ballet de Lorraine in January 2025, Maud Le Pladec brings an artistic vision deeply rooted in contemporary dance, marked by the exploration of the links between movement, music and society.
