They are once again buzzing above the Grand Palais: this summer of 2025, five beehives have taken up residence on the roof of the monument in a sustainable and educational move.
Did you know that without bees, our plates would be empty? These environmental sentinels play an essential role in the pollination of fruit and vegetable flowers. Yet they are under threat from pesticides, habitat loss and the Asian hornet.
To take action, the GrandPalaisRmn has joined the Abeille, sentinelle de l'environnement® program of the UNAF (Union Nationale de l'Apiculture Française), professional union structure which is supporting the project as part of a public contract. It provides for sanitary monitoring of the apiary, honey harvesting and mediation actions to raise public awareness.
After an initial experiment between 2009 and 2021, interrupted due to building work, five new hives have been installed on the south-facing roof. Thanks to the floral diversity - over 3,000 trees within a 600-meter radius - conditions are ideal to ensure the well-being of these pollinators.
If the apiary is not accessible to the public, workshops and animations will take place in the Salon Seine in the coming months and during the Apidays® in June 2026. The aim: to enable everyone to discover the fascinating world of bees and better understand their essential role.
The official signing of the charter takes place on September 29, 2025. The first harvest, hoped for as early as summer 2026, will give rise to honey produced with respect for bees and nature.
