The Grand Palais and le19M, CHANEL's center for Artisanal Crafts, have joined forces to create a monumental textile curtain, celebrating the richness of exceptional craftsmanship while enhancing the majesty of the Nave. Discover in this video the secrets behind its creation and the precious skills involved in this ornamental work, on display year-round at the Grand Palais.
Before rising in the heart of the Grand Palais, the monumental textile curtain conceived by le19M took shape in the calm of the workshops: hours of precise gestures, collaborative research between the Maisons d’art, and meticulous work with materials and light.
Feathers, pleats, ornamental metal, embroidery, tweed, Italian and Canadian smocking, assembled leather… so many materials and techniques emblematic of haute couture come together in this creation, measuring 15 meters wide and 8 meters high.
In this video, the Maisons d’art involved in the project (Atelier Lognon, Atelier Montex, Goossens, Lemarié, Lesage, Maison Michel, Massaro, Paloma, and Studio MTX) share the stories and secrets behind its making. The video is in French, but automatic English subtitles are available.
From the very beginning, the intention was to complement the verticality of the space. The Grand Palais is a place where you constantly look up, everything draws your gaze toward the light. We wanted to enhance that experience.
Under the artistic coordination of Studio MTX and with the support of CHANEL, Grand Mécène of the Grand Palais, the monumental 19M curtain can be seen all year round, with free access, from the Place centrale of the Grand Palais.
Come lift your eyes, admire the details and let yourself be surprised by the expertise of the Maisons d'art!
