Pompeii 2020 was marked by confirmation of the formal transfor- mation of exhibition catalogues with the advent of the Pompeii catalogue. With its additional digital content and more affordable price, this new augmented cata- logue, in a smaller and easier to handle format, address- es the need to reach out to new audiences. With nearly 8,500 copies sold, the Pompeii catalogue performed just as well on the exhibition site, in general bookstores and online on the boutiquesdemusees.fr site. The health crisis brought together commercial, market- ing and digital teams with the goal of increasing the vis- ibility of the Pompeii catalogue: relaying publications on social networks and websites made it possible to reach a broad target population receptive to the exhibition. With 700 copies sold on the boutiquesdemusees.fr site, the Pompeii catalogue was an online bestseller for the Rmn - Grand Palais.
COLLECTIONS THAT GAIN TRACTION
Paper treasures The Paper Treasures collection was started in 2016 and co-published with the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques Guimet. The collection features works from exceptional temporary ex- hibitions that enable the public to see masterpieces that are rarely exhibited because of the extreme fragility of the works in question. In these small bound books (174 x 132 mm) where the focus is on the illustrations, the choice of paper is key to achieving perfect chro- matic quality for each print or photo- graph. Beyond the exhibitions, this col- lection of highly affordable gift items is designed to last: the six titles already released benefit fully from the collec- tion effect well known to all booksell- ers. Fuji Pays de Neige published in July 2020 was quickly reprinted; for the titles to be released in 2021, the initial print runs have already been doubled.
