A CULTURE PLAYER IN THE REGIONS
Make culture accessible all over France Encountering art is a powerful tool for cohesion and emancipation. Promoting access to culture all over France is one of the critical missions of the Rmn - Grand Palais. Numerous actions are being taken to reach out to audiences who are far removed from culture and these are increasing year after year. The Histoires d Art projects exemplify this approach.
The Histoires d Art in Gonesse programme for ex- ample is part of a twinning policy between zones de sécurité prioritaire (priority security zones) and cultural public establishments. Since March 2017, the Rmn - Grand Palais is associated with the city of Gonesse and organizes workshops to introduce participants to art and artistic creation. These work- shops are free of charge and open to all inhabitants. These workshops are dispensed by artists in venues belonging to the city and reach a predominantly young, non-academic audience, which is the goal sought.
In a solidarity initiative, the Rmn - Grand Palais formed a partnership in 2019 with the Habitat et Humanisme movement and the Aurore association to propose a programme for asylum seekers and people in precarious situations. Histoires d Art Solidarité draws on art history as a way to learn French and gain an understanding of its cultural his- tory and citizenship. In 2020, new forms of remote workshops were tested to ensure the programme continued despite the lockdowns.
These online engagement methods open new per- spectives for reaching out to groups that are far away from cultural sites. The teams at the Rmn - Grand Palais are working to develop these systems in order to further boost its actions in the social sphere.
