ART AND CULTURE
Art Capital 12 - 16 FEBRUARY As part of the rich tradition of art salons, Art Capital arose from the combi- nation of several exhibitions Comparaisons, Le Salon des Artistes Français, Dessin et Peinture à l Eau and Le Salon des Artistes Indépendants. This event, which unites over 2,000 artists from all disciplines also brings togeth- er the various forms of artistic expression and providing an opportunity for a wide range of artists, art lovers, gallery owners and collectors to come together. This 14th Art Capital event drew more than 39,000 visitors. Art Paris Art Fair 10 - 13 SEPTEMBER Open to all forms of artistic expression and accessible to all audiences, the Art Paris Art Fair presents a vast panorama of modern and contempo- rary creation. The 2020 event, originally scheduled for April but pushed back to September, brought together 112 galleries and over 900 artists, almost 36% of whom were taking part for the first time. The event focused on two themes: a critical look at the French scene with a selection of 18 artists structured around such concepts as narratives and singular and universal stories, and an Iberian Peninsula theme, highlighting Spanish and Portuguese art from the 1950's to the present day. 56,000 visitors flocked to this year's Art Paris Art Fair.
The International Rare Book and Fine Art Fair 18 - 20 SEPTEMBER The International Rare Book and Fine Art Fair is the leading global ex- hibition in the field of written, printed and pictorial heritage. Originally scheduled for April, it was postponed until September which unfortunately did not enable the Fine Art Fair, a companion exhibition to the Rare Book Fair, to go ahead. 160 sellers of old and modern books, art publishers and print and drawing gallery owners, presented thousands of documents of all styles and from all eras. With a cultural programme offering something for everyone, the fair is intended as a place of discovery and initiation for the general public and a venue for encounters between the enthusiast and the curious. This year the Cinémathèque Française was invited to present a selection of rare documents on the theme of the cinema from Georges Méliès to Martin Scorsese. 10,000 people went to the show, i.e. half of the usual attendance.
