HISTOIRES D ART AU THE GRAND PALAIS A LA CARTE COURSES AT THE GRAND PALAIS, THE MUSÉE DE L'ARMÉE AND ONLINE
Since 2016, 10,000 students of all ages are welcomed every season to the Grand Palais; most have not had any art history lessons before. The courses are also offered to students who are preparing competitive examinations to enter the French Grandes Ecoles and to primary and secondary school groups. Since 2019, these history of art classes also take the form of walking tours: participants are invited to explore different areas in Paris walking in the footsteps of their illustrious residents.
In preparing for the closure of the Grand Palais for ren- ovation work, the Rmn - Grand Palais has forged a mul- ti-year partnership with the Musée de l Armée to host classes until the Grand Palais reopens. In particular, a special cycle concerning the masterpieces in the Musée de l Armée has been devised on this occasion. A three- class series on the theme "Art and Music" has also been
developed as part of a partnership with the Radio France and France Musique Auditorium. From musician-painters to theatres, this series offered to explore the world of music through the prism of the visual arts, from the end of the Modern Era to the present day.
During the first lockdown, the Rmn Grand Palais made two Histoires d Art courses usually held in the Grand Palais auditorium, available free of charge: "Journey to ancient Egypt with Magicians and
Pharaohs", from the educational series for families; "Academism, Realism and Impressionism, how to
break the hierarchy of the arts in the 19th centu- ry? from the General History of Art cycle.
These very popular courses were offered on the websites and relayed on social networks. As of November 2020, to adapt to the health crisis, the Histoires d art courses were offered online in the form of webinars. 3,500 participants took these courses between November and December 2020.
