AROUND THE EXHIBITION
Noir & Blanc in the metro! From 9 November 2020 to 28 February 2021, the Noir & Blanc, A Photographic Aesthetic exhibition was hosted in 13 RATP railway and metro stations. This exceptional partnership between the Rmn - Grand Palais, the BnF and the RATP offered passengers a glimpse of the ex- hibition through a gallery of characters, looks and silhouettes with a special focus on photos of people. The exhibition curators were the artistic directors for this initiative Different displays were proposed for each station, including frieze prints at Hôtel de Ville, Luxembourg and Châtelet, hanging panels at Jaurès, Bir Hakeim and Nanterre and glass stands at the Lyon railway station.
Regards d Artistes In a video series entitled Regards d Artistes (artists views) the Grand Palais invited artists to visit the exhibition after it had been set up. The interpretation of the works was greatly enriched when seen through the eyes of these creators. Film-maker Yvan Attal, author and compos- er Woodkid and comic book illustrator, author and designer Pénelope Bagieu took part in this three-episode web series.
Filters in black and white Echoing the exhibition, the painter Inès Longevial created animated black and white masks for use in augmented reality in the Instagram stories. This graphic and playful filter generated almost 26,500 page impressions.
Past and present black and white artists A 15-minute film featuring the testimonials of renowned photographers such as Man Ray, William Klein, Édouard Boubat, Valérie Belin and Israel Arino was produced by the Rmn - Grand Palais teams. Broadcast in the exhibition and then put online for the general public, this film also asked printers specialised in black and white to give their invaluable insight on this subject.
Shadow and Light: A photo contest in partnership with Fisheye In collaboration with Fisheye, the Rmn - Grand Palais organized a black and white photo contest on Instagram in November and December around the theme "Shadow and Light". Open to both professionals and photo enthusiasts, the competition recorded nearly 1,800 entries and awards were given for the best photos according to the following criteria: relevance to the theme, aesthetics and visual harmony and fi- nally the originality of the photo.
