IMPLEMENTATION OF THE "FRENCH CAPITAL OF CULTURE" NATIONAL LABEL
The "French Capitals of Culture label is a project initiated and financed by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the Caisse des Dépôts. Announced in the May 2019 meeting of the Interministerial Council for Tourism, this label will be awarded every two years to a cultural project by a commune or grouping of communes with a population of between 20,000 and 200,000. The project must satisfy eight criteria, among them innovation, artistic and cultural transmission, participation by inhabitants, project reach and regional solidarity.
Implementation and monitoring of the pro- ject was entrusted to the Rmn Grands Palais in the form of a multi-year agree- ment signed in November 2019. The Rmn Grands Palais prepared and coordinat- ed project operations throughout 2020 in close liaison with the Ministry of Culture. It also organized a steering committee with all stakeholders in order to define the spec- ifications and timetable for this first event. The label was officially launched by the Ministry of Culture on 8 October 2020. The Communication Department contributed to the project by developing the visual
identity of the label, the press kit and the social media campaign for the launch. The Visitors and Digital Technology Department created a dedicated website and relayed the institutional communication campaign on the establishment's social networks.
For this first calls for projects, the com- munes or groupings of communes could apply up to 31 December on the website developed and run by the Rmn - Grand Palais.
