FASHION
The various Fashion weeks, the highlights of the fash- ion year, did not go through the health crisis unscathed. While the January and February collections could be presented under the usual conditions, those in June, July, September and October saw the emergence of new formats, notably through digital presentations or small, intimate events.
CHANEL unveiled its Haute Couture Spring - Summer 2020 collection in a setting inspired by a cloister gar- den; the Ready-to-Wear Autumn - Winter 2020 / 2021 collection was presented in a sober setting of rows of black and white steps. In October, CHANEL put the spotlight on the film industry when presenting its Summer 2021 Ready-to-Wear collection with a full- sized reinterpretation of the Hollywood sign featuring the CHANEL brand name.
Other fashion houses also chose the Grand Palais to unveil their collections in 2020: Dunhill, Margiela, Yamamoto, Valentino, Sacai, Vauthier and ChloƩ. Saint Laurent came to the nave in July to shoot some foot- age for the video used to launch its Men's Spring - Summer 2021 collection. This video features a thrilling race across the rooftops of the most beautiful Parisian monuments, including the Grand Palais. On 3 October, the Circular Fashion Summit 2020, a global summit in the form of a virtual conference de- voted to innovations in fashion (especially in the area of sustainable development) took place in a... virtual Grand Palais! With events taking on increasingly hybrid and digital forms, the Circular Fashion Summit was a highlight in the event programme and a genuine tech- nological milestone being the first event of its kind at the Grand Palais.
