To share these historical discoveries with the public, the Réunion des musées nationaux Grand Palais offered an immersive digital exhibition, showcasing Pompeii through a one-of-its-kind spectacular experience. To produce it, partnerships with the Pompeii Archaeological Site and Gédéon, the French leader in archaeological documentaries were forged. Gédéon used cutting edge technologies (laser mapping, infra-red thermography, photogrammetry, etc.), to create very high resolution im- ages and offer extremely accurate 3D reconstructions. This digital experience had impressive 360° projections, accompanied by city sounds and original music, immers- ing visitors right from the start of their journey in the centre of Pompeii, giving them the impression of tak- ing part in the hectic life of the city and then plunging them into the heart of the dramatic events, by means of a spectacular installation reproducing the eruption of Vesuvius and the event timeline. The journey invited
visitors to discover the history of the digs from the 18th century to the most recent discoveries. The exhibition ended with a full-size contemplation of the frescoes that decorated the most beautiful Pompeian villas. This exhibition was supported by Aurel BGC and MAIF with technical support from ETC.
On leaving the exhibition, in the foyer of the Salon d Honneur, visitors were able to enjoy an interactive virtual reality experience in which they explored the re- mains of an ancient domus exactly as it was in 79 before the eruption of Vesuvius. Visitors could reconstruct the interior of the domus through a virtual search for the ob- jects required. This journey through space and time was developed with GEDEON Programmes, in partnership with UBISOFT, HTC Vive Arts and Aristeas.
